A restaurant in St. Clair County announces it is closing, has plans in Madison County
Owners of an O’Fallon steakhouse have announced that they will be closing the restaurant after five years but will continue operating a restaurant in Edwardsville.
1818 Chophouse announced in a Sept. 10 Facebook post that the restaurant at 1405 N. Green Mount Road would permanently close after its last day of service on Oct. 2.
The post says the owners and staff have enjoyed serving the area since opening the O’Fallon location in 2016.
“Our team was filled with joy and gratification when the community welcomed us with open arms, and we have been blessed to have the opportunity to serve you all these last 5 years,” the post said.
The message cited multiple reasons for the decision to move forward with only one location in Edwardsville. The post cited difficulties in the hospitality industry over the past 18 months and the current state of the labor market.
The post continued, “The luxury of having nights, weekends and holidays at home or with friends and family in 2020 was something many of us haven’t had the opportunity to experience in our careers. Respectfully, a lot of those people never returned to the Hospitality Industry.”
The question of what to do “to hone in on the importance of our brand, integrity, and quality of life outside of work for our Chophouse Family” had an easy answer: “We pivot.”
Rather than dwell on the sadness of closing the O’Fallon restaurant, its general manager, Amber Wheeler, said the company would be able to focus on the Edwardsville restaurant at 210 S. Buchanan St., where Wheeler will be moving.
The company is also building a new location in Edwardsville. Construction at Trace on the Parkway near Route 157 is nearly finished, and 1818 Chophouse on South Buchanan Street is expected move to the new address at the end of October, according to Wheeler.
As for the space on South Buchanan Street, Wheeler says there are plans for a new concept, which will open in January.
After 1818 Chophouse relocates to Trace on the Parkway, plans are to open the Buchanan Street location and book private events during November and December.
Current hours at 1818 Chophouse in O’Fallon are 3-9 p.m. Tuesday-Friday and 4-10 p.m. Saturday. Hours at the Edwardsville location are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday-Friday, 4-10 p.m. Saturday and and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.
