Nashville-based barbecue restaurant planning second site in southwestern Illinois
A new barbecue restaurant is coming to O’Fallon.
Plans to build an Edley’s Bar-B-Que in place of the previously planned Hi-Pointe Drive-In restaurant were revealed at Monday’s O’Fallon City Council meeting.
The new restaurant will be part of the West Highway 50/Cambridge Boulevard Business District. The business district development was transferred by the council from TO-JB LLC to KBA Investments LLC, which is managed by Scott Plocher of Plocher Construction in Highland.
Plocher and his development group has previously worked with O’Fallon on projects that include development of the Blade Building at Green Mount Road and Regency Park, Sugarfire BBQ and Dewey’s Pizza, according to city records and the Plocher Construction website.
Plocher’s group proposed the addition of the new Edley’s location, which would make O’Fallon the second Edley’s restaurant site in Illinois.
“This highly visible 3.2 acre lot … will be reenvisioned to include the newest location for the Nashville-based Edley’s Bar-B-Que alongside a multi-tenant building that will be home to the Edwardsville based Goshen Coffee,” according to Plocher.
Edley’s in O’Fallon will be similar to the recently opened location in Glen Carbon. The Glen Carbon site opened in July.
“The site will maintain a consistent but upgraded experience to the previous layouts and design configurations that have been presented to the City of O’Fallon,” continued Plocher.
“Leaning on experience from the developers’ experience at other locations, this updated design will strike a balance between maximizing the appropriate use of the site while minimizing any negative impacts to the sounding neighborhoods.”
Stacey Tyrrell of Edwardsville is the owner of the Glen Carbon franchise as well as the future O’Fallon restaurant. She was not available for comment.
However, her husband, Pat Tyrrell, confirmed that Stacey Tyrrell is the owner for both locations and that Edley’s in O’Fallon should open in summer 2022.
He also said there would possibly be an additional location in the St. Louis area down the line.
The Edley’s website states that their “meats are smoked low and slow using Southern white oak,” and that the sides are made from scratch daily. Menu items include a variety of brisket entrees, as well as ribs, pork, chicken and turkey dishes, a variety of sides, salads, appetizers and desserts. The website includes a menu gallery full of photos of several menu items.
Edley’s Bar-B-Que is family owned and operated by founders Will and Catharine Newman, according to the restaurant’s website. The first location opened in 2011 in Nashville, Tennessee. There are two other Nashville locations and one in Chattanooga. Glen Carbon opened in July and is the first location outside of Tennessee.
