Popular Belleville coffee shop to close but plans to keep roasting business open
Balance Coffee & Tea in Belleville announced Saturday the coffee shop would be closing, but customers will still be able to buy the company’s whole-bean coffee.
The owners could not be reached for additional comment Saturday.
The shop, which opened in a former railway station at 732 S. Illinois in 2017, is scheduled to close March 13 for “personal reasons,” according to a Facebook post.
“We have now had several offers to take over this business, so there’s definitely hope for the cafe to return under new ownership!” the post said.
“Also, we will continue roasting coffee for our wholesale partners as well as launching a website soon to ship whole bean coffee to you all under Balance Roasting Division.”
Balance Coffee & Tea was one of the coffee shops featured in a News-Democrat poll last month on our readers’ favorite places to get coffee in the metro-east.
The owners of Balance Coffee & Tea wrote they were grateful for their customers.
“We appreciate you all and the support you’ve shown us for the past 5 years,” the post said. “You’ve absolutely changed our lives! Much love to you everyone.”
