Where’s the best fish in southwestern Illinois? Here’s what readers say
I have to say, people in our area really enjoy their fish.
Our most recent list of area Lenten fish fry events was included on the BND Facebook page, and people shared which places have the fish they like most.
Here are a few comments:
“Any of the fish fries in Waterloo, Valmeyer, or Columbia area!!!!!!” — David G.
“Otts tavern in Millstadt, American Legion in Glen Carbon, Lyle’s Tavern in Maryville” — Denny R.
“Cat & Fiddle --Hands Down the best!!!” — Stephen P.
“Bullpen New Athens Illinois” — Bryan K.
Other commenters named the places that were on our most recent list and in the current poll, which can be found at the end of this story.
There were many mentions of Cat and Fiddle, located at 8301 Old St. Louis Road in Belleville.

Smarty pants. They may as well have shouted, “Play ‘Freebird’!” and kicked me off the stage.
Not all area fish fry hot spots are on our previously posted list. I’m sorry about that; it’s hard to get them all. Most of what’s included was provided.
Send the details for any I’m missing to jgreen@bnd.com. I’ll put them on a list for next time.
For now, of those listed in this poll, which do you like best?
