Here’s the best craft beer brewer in the St. Louis region, according to BND readers
Well, it appears that for the majority of folks in the area — at least of those who read the BND online — craft beer is just not their jam.
The bad news is that my latest reader poll didn’t get the participation I had hoped for. (Might things have gone differently if all beers – Budweiser or Stag – were included?)
The good news is that it means more craft beer for the rest of us. (I like to look for that silver lining whenever possible. And yes, thank you, I will have that Schlafly Coffee Stout … after working hours, of course.)
Here’s how our top 10 contenders ranked:
Millpond Brewing and Incubator, 308 E. Washington St., Millstadt – 30 votes
4 Hands Brewing Company, 1220 S. 8th St., St. Louis – 29 votes
Recess Brewing, 307 N. Main St., Edwardsville – 24 votes
Old Herald Brewery & Distillery, 115 E. Clay St., Collinsville – 23 votes
4204 Main Street Brewing Company, 6435 W. Main St., Belleville – 22 votes
Square One Brewery & Distillery, 1727 Park Ave., St. Louis – 21 votes
Lieferbrau Brewery LLC, 118 E. Market St., Red Bud – 18 votes
Hopskeller Brewing Company, 116 E. 3rd St., Waterloo – 14 votes
Urban Chestnut, 4465 Manchester Ave., St. Louis – 14 votes
Peel Brewing Company, 104 S. Cherry St., O’Fallon – 10 votes
The poll also included the following breweries:
Civil Life Brewing Company, St. Louis
Excel Brewing Company, Breese
Hofbräuhaus St. Louis - Belleville, Belleville
Perennial Artisan Ales, St. Louis
Schlafly, St. Louis
White Rooster Farmhouse Brewery, Sparta
Grafton Winery & Brewhaus, Grafton
The Old Bakery Beer Company, Alton
Earthbound Beer, St. Louis
Molly’s Pint Brew Pub, Murphysboro
Scratch Brewing Company, Ava
Shoehorn Brewing, Belleville
Wellspent Brewing Company, St. Louis
Big Muddy Brewing Co., Murphysboro
Even if craft beer isn’t your thing, I hope that doesn’t stop some of you from trying one now and then if the opportunity presents itself.
There really are some good/interesting/wild ones out there. (Go crazy. Try Absence of Light by 4 Hands Brewing Company. It’s a peanut butter chocolate milk stout. Very different but surprisingly tasty.)
Anyway, now that this poll is over and done, I’ll soon be launching the next one.
But here’s the thing. I want the next poll to be of interest to as many of our readers as possible. So I’m asking for your input.
(Yes, I’m actually taking a poll to see what the next poll should be. I’m not too proud to ask for help here.)
Tell us in the form below what topics you’d like to see in a future poll.
