140 health code violations from August added to BND Restaurant Inspection Database
The Belleville News-Democrat has added 140 health code violations from August to its Metro-east Restaurant Inspection Database.
The database contains health inspectors’ findings from all of the inspections they conducted so far this year at restaurants across St. Clair County.
In August, inspectors cited 39 restaurants for a total of 140 health code violations. Most of the cited restaurants had one violation, but inspectors uncovered as many as 15 violations at a single location.
Live gnats and a dead cockroach in storage rooms were among their findings in the last month.
One restaurant with broken refrigeration units had its license suspended and voluntarily closed for six days until the issue was fixed. The health department described the lack of proper refrigeration as an “imminent health hazard” because of the risk of causing food poisoning.
Visit the BND’s Metro-east Restaurant Inspection Database and our guide for using it all in one place online at the link bit.ly/StClairinspections. You’ll find detailed descriptions of what health inspectors witnessed and the level of severity they assigned to it. We also give you tips for what terms to search to find what you’re looking for.
The database now includes 322 restaurants. St. Clair County has a total of 1,028 restaurants, which receive unannounced, routine inspections from the health department two to three times a year. The health department will also send inspectors to investigate a complaint or to follow up on issues they identified in a routine inspection.
The BND will continue updating the database monthly, and we’ll let you know when the latest inspection results are available.
