An Aldi store may be in Belleville’s future. What we know so far

Plans are in the works to bring a new Aldi grocery store to Belleville.

Proposed site plans have been submitted for approval to the City of Belleville for the construction of a 20,696-square-foot store on a 5-acre lot at 1709 Carlyle Ave. in Belleville.

The target location is a piece of farmland near Green Mount Road next to a Bank of America location in Greenmount Plaza, according to documents.

Preliminary plans for the grocery store include the site elevation for the proposed building, the parking lot – which includes 111 parking spaces and landscape plans – and the concept floor plan for the building’s interior.

The site plan application was submitted by GW Properties, a Chicago-based developer, under the name of GWF Belleville LLC.

Documents did not indicate a target completion or store opening date , if the project gets the green light.

Messages left with Belleville’s Economic Development, Planning and Zoning Department Director Cliff Cross, GW Properties, and Aldi’s media relations were not immediately returned.

Additional details will be reported as more information becomes available.

Area Aldi locations include stores in Swansea, Fairview Heights, O’Fallon, Collinsville and Cahokia. For more information about Aldi, visit aldi.us.
