Here’s a list of 18 ice cream shops opening for the season in southwestern Illinois
Do you ever wonder if it’s ever really too cold for ice cream?
Yeah, neither do I.
If it were, seasonal ice cream shops would wait until late May to open. (And boo! that.)
But joy! Doors are already opening to serve up some frozen yummies.
With a little motivation from Ben & Jerry — Spoon? Check. Chocolate Fudge Brownie ice cream? Double check. — I put together a list of seasonal ice cream places in the area.
Now you can join me in screaming for ice cream.
Here are the seasonal ice cream, frozen custard and other shops:
The Dairy Bar, 2673 E. 28th St., Granite City. Now open noon to 9 p.m. daily. 618-876-6852.
Dairy Freeze, 250 St. Louis Road, Collinsville. Now open 1-9 p.m. daily. 618-346-8313.
Dairy Haven, 112 N. Main St., Caseyville. Now open noon to 9 p.m. daily. Cash only. 618-345-8866.
Gators Fabulous Frozen Custard, 406 W. Highway 50, O’Fallon. Now open 1-9 p.m. Monday-Friday, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. 618-624-1944.
Happy Days Ice Cream Shop, 119 W. Washington St. in Millstadt. Tentative opening date of Thursday, March 16. 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. daily. 618-476-3335.
I Scream U Scream, 214 W. State St., O’Fallon. Open St. Patrick’s Day weekend. Spring hours will be noon to 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and noon to 10 p.m. Friday-Saturday. 618-622-1777.
Marie’s Ice Cream Shoppe, 1220 Columbia Center, Columbia. Now open 2-9 p.m. Tuesday-Sunday. Closed on Mondays. 618-477-7584.

Sling N’ Scoops, 204 S. Main St., Red Bud. Opens Friday, March 10. Hours will be 3-7 p.m. Friday, 2-7 p.m. Saturday-Sunday. Hours will change when school is out for the summer. 618-791-3965.
