Mexican restaurant franchise opens in O’Fallon with a menu that is ‘kinda different’
A new Mexican restaurant is now open in O’Fallon.
I received an email from a reader early Monday morning that “the food was really good” and that there were “plenty of service people.”
What is this new place, and where can you find it?
Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant is located at 950 Talon Drive, site of the former Horseshoe Restaurant & Lounge, which closed last summer.
The new restaurant opened Thursday, April 20, according to general manager Salvador Vazquez, who said things are going good so far.
He said the menu offerings at Los Amigos are “kinda different” than what you’ll find at other Mexican restaurants.
I took a look at the menu, and it has a lot to offer.
Appetizers include a variety of dips to go with the chips, stuffed jalapeños, nachos with different toppings and the Papas Locas, French fries with chorizo and jalapeños topped with white and yellow cheese.
There are soups and salads and lunch specials.
Then the menu gets into the really good stuff.
There are loads of fajita options – beef, chicken, shrimp, veggie, chorizo and any combination thereof.
There are chicken dishes, seafood items, vegetarian options and the long list of Mexican specialties that include:
Carnitas: spicy chunks of seasoned port with tortillas, lettuce and pico de gallo;
Steak con Hongos: ribeye cooked with mushrooms and onions topped with cheese;
Los Amigos Wrap: 12-inch tortilla with steak, chicken or pork with rice, lettuce, cheese, tomato, sour cream and jalapeños;
Cazuelon Los Amigos: ribeye steak with carnita and shrimp, onions, mushrooms and lime with rice, beans and guacamole salad;
Burrito Los Amigos: burrito with grilled chicken, chorizo, pineapple and rice, topped with chipotle cheese sauce;
Enchilada de Mole: two chicken enchiladas topped with mole sauce. Served with beans and rice.
You get the idea. There are many great options to choose from.
The best part is that if you can’t decide what to get, you have a reason to keep going back.

Los Amigos Mexican Restaurant is located at 950 Talon Drive in O’Fallon. It is the sixth Los Amigos restaurant location.
The others are in Carlyle, Vandalia, Greenville and Effingham in Illinois, with another location in Kokomo, Indiana.
Hours are 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday-Saturday.
