Sweet Little Things, LLC in East Alton recently celebrated a grand opening ribbon cutting event, coordinated by the RiverBend Growth Association.

Located at 611 E. Airline Drive, Sweet Little Things started as a cottage kitchen, said owner Rose Badasch in a brief phone interview. This means she was licensed to bake and sell goods from her home.

She moved her operation to East Airline Drive in January and opened on Feb. 1.

Badasch started Sweet Little Things “to share the love of cooking and baking with every single person that walks in the door,” according to a press release. “We want to give you food that will fill your bellies, put a smile on your face, and make you feel as if you’ve come home.

“Why? Because each person that comes in will be treated like family. Food is not just meant to be nourishment. It’s a way of bringing people together and sharing a common experience. So when we say, ‘come taste what you’ve been missing,’ it’s not only about the food. It’s the friendships as well.”

Badasch said the bakery has carries staples like chocolate chip cookies, cinnamon rolls, and a bacon cinnamon roll. But she said much of the time she improvises and bakes whatever she feels like.

While the business name implies sweets and baked goods, Sweet Little Things also offers more savory eats.

Photos on the shop’s Facebook page show items such as a four-meat stromboli and a sandwich with steak, two cheeses, grilled onions topped with an over-medium egg on a toasted hoagie roll.

“I’ve stated on my social media: I believe that food can be a real communal experience,” stated Badasch in the release.

“Perhaps in the near future, I could expand the bakery/restaurant. I also want to give back to the community I’ve grown up in and continue to show the Riverbend how food can bring us all together.”

Sweet Little Things, LLC is located at 611 E. Airline Road in East Alton.

Regular hours are 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday.
