After almost 16 years in business, this downtown Belleville restaurant will close its doors

Brought to my attention by a reader tip, I just learned that another longtime Belleville restaurant is about to close its doors.

“Welcome to the start of the last 30 days of Seven,” stated a Jan. 31 post on the Seven Belleville Facebook page.

Seven, located at 7 S. High St. in downtown Belleville, will close at the end of the month, which means there is still time to go and enjoy some good food, drinks and live music.

The reason for the closing is not clear at this time. Messages left at the restaurant and with the owner were not immediately returned.

Fans of the restaurant, I want to hear from you. Share your memories, favorite meals and what you’ll miss about Seven in an email to newsroom@bnd.com. Please include Seven in the subject line.

A brief history

Seven Restaurant & Lounge first opened in April 2008 under the co-ownership of Luke Reynolds, Ted Quinn, Brian Besse and Stephan Kezirian.

“... We really think that we will be a good addition to the Belleville night-life scene, especially in downtown Belleville,” Reynolds told the BND at the time.

In early 2012, soon after Marvin’s Camera at 28 E. Main St. closed, Besse began renovations to convert the camera supply shop into an extension of Seven: Shichi (Japanese for the numeral 7).

Shichi opened May 18, 2012.

In June 2017, the BND reported that Besse sold the business to longtime employees Stephanie Gain and Amanda Schlecht.

Their plans were to make Seven their own by changing the look of the space and introducing a new menu.

Seven Belleville celebrated a grand reopening at 7 p.m. on July 7, 2017.
