Metro-east ice cream shops are opening soon near you. Here’s a list
After enjoying some warmer weather recently (enjoy it while it lasts), I’ve had a hankering for some ice cream.
And although I have a pint in the freezer, it’s just not the same as going to one of the local stands to get a cold treat. (I’m a fan of the mango Italian ice at Uptown Scoops in Collinsville.) The good news is that I don’t have to wait much longer, and neither do you.
Seasonal shops are opening, several of them over the weekend and more in the coming week. Some are already open. So here’s a list of ice cream and frozen custard shops with their opening dates and hours. Enjoy!

- I Scream U Scream, 214 W. State St., O’Fallon. Opens during St. Patrick’s Day week. Hours: Noon to 9 p.m. Sunday-Thursday and noon to 10 p.m. Friday-Saturday. 618-622-1777.
- Ice Cream Heaven, 913 Sherman St., Belleville. Now open. Current hours: Noon to 9 p.m. daily (depending on the weather). 618-698-4077.
