Recipe of the Day: These s’mores need no campfire
S’MORE HOT CHOCOLATE
1 (14 ounces) can sweetened condensed milk
6 cups low-fat milk
1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup cocoa powder
4 ounces semi-sweet chocolate
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Whipped cream, for garnish
Graham crackers, for garnish
Chopped chocolate, for garnish
Mini marshmallows, for garnish
ADULT VERSION:
6-8 ounces hot chocolate recipe
1 ounce chocolate vodka
1/2 ounce peppermint schnapps
In a slow-cooker, combine sweetened condensed milk, low-fat milk, sugar, cocoa powder, semi-sweet chocolate and vanilla extract. Heat on high and whisk occasionally until mixture is smooth. Once mixture is smooth and steaming, turn heat down to warm.
Alternatively, you can cook hot chocolate mixture in a pot over medium heat until steaming and then transfer to a slow-cooker to keep it warm.
Garnish each cup of hot chocolate with a big dollop of whipped cream and top with graham crackers, marshmallows and chopped chocolate.
If you’re making an adult version, stir in 1 ounce of chocolate vodka and 1/2 ounce of peppermint schnapps before topping and garnishing.
Makes 10 servings.
