With summer vacation just under way, you may be looking for something for the kids to do that to not only will entertain them, but educate them.
The answer could be the free three-day Youth Cooking School at the Belleville Public Library. Running from June 7-9, the hands-on classes are meant for kids ages 6 to 16. It will run from 1 to 4 p.m.
Sponsored by the University of Illinois Extension, the goal is to keep hands busy and teach children about the foods they eat. They also will learn about nutrition, portion sizes, healthy choices, kitchen safety and more.
Students will do some hands-on work, making three recipes a day, and get to taste what they make. The school can take up to 30 students and there is no residency requirement to attend the free three-day cooking school.
Reservations should be made in advance by calling Freda at the library, 618-234-0441.
