Pet blessing at Shrine

The National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows invites the public to bring domesticated pets to an event called Celebrate Creation and Creatures. It will include an outdoor Mass at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, with Friar Serrano and a Blessing of the Animals in honor of St. Francis of Assisi at 6 p.m. at the Lourdes Grotto. Pets must be leashed or crated. Owners are responsible for picking up after them, and only those that are well-behaved should come to the Mass. Bring containers if desired; water will be available. Mental illness awareness

First Assembly of God in Belleville will hold an Ecumenical Candlelight Service at 7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 2, to mark the beginning of Mental Illness Awareness Week. The church is at 900 Fair Oaks Drive. Union Full Gospel church event

Minister Dr. Leeanna Hill and the Voices of Joy will perform at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at Union Full Gospel Baptist Church, 2402 Tudor Ave., East St. Louis. The Rev. Daryl Williams Sr. is worship leader. Special guests include Brother Bert & The Singing Angels, Mr. James Wafer & The Highly Pha’Vord Singers, Barbara Wolfe, evangelist Mary Rich, The Joyfulletts Singers, Union Full Gospel Choir and more. CDs will be available for $10.
