Immaculate Conception to have groundbreaking ceremony

The Immaculate Conception Parish will have a groundbreaking ceremony for its new Catholic Education and Activity Center at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, June 24, at the parish, 411 Palmer Road, Columbia. The date has special significance for the parish as it is the 6th anniversary of the ground breaking for the church. The Rev. Carl Scherrer, the Mayor of Columbia Kevin Hutchinson, the President and CEO of Ittner Architects Dennis Young, Gregg Korte and members of Korte and Luitjohan Contractors, Inc., and Mike Gibbons the chief financial officer of the Belleville diocese will be among the local dignitaries in attendance.

The ground breaking will take place in three groups. The first group is ceremonial. The second group will be the building committee. Organizers are inviting everyone who attends to participate in the third group. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own shovels.
