One hundred quilts
St. Francis of Assisi Church in Aviston hosts a quilt show from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The Parish Center is at 251 S. Clinton in Aviston. The quilt show will have one hundred quilts, including “Sangria,” which is made of 10 materials and 13 blocks and is the subject of a contest to correctly guess the number of pieces in the quilt. Admission is $3 and includes cookies, brownies and tea, coffee and lemonade.
A small number of odd-sized quilts will be for sale, as will quilt tops and potholders of “orphaned blocks,” says Mary Schulte, of the Parish. One such quilt started as a partial top destined for the burn pile, until a Parish member “took it from the trash and finished it and it’s beautiful,” she said of the hand-quilted appliqued quilt.
On Aug. 5, St. Francis hosts a church picnic that includes quilt bingo, with every game winning a quilt.
