Belleville Chapter of PFLAG
The next meeting of PFLAG will be at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at St. Paul United Church of Christ, Belleville. The media viewed at the meeting will be George Weinberg’s interview on The Gay USA Show. Weinberg, the psychiatrist who coined the term homophobia, discusses the fight against conversion therapy in the interview. He died in March 2017. Masonic Youth Showcase
The 2nd annual Masonic Youth Showcase of Southern Illinois will take place at 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 6, at the Scottish Rite Masonic Bodies Valley of Southern Illinois, 1549 Frank Scott Parkway West, Belleville. The organizations to be featured at the showcase are Job’s Daughters International, DeMolay International and The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls. This event is open to the public. Light refreshments will follow the descriptions of the organizations and a demonstration of their ceremonies.
Granite City High School 66th reunion
The Granite City class of 1951 will have a casual reunion event at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 5, at Ravanelli’s in Granite City. The cost of the event is $20 per person. Please call 618-877-8251 with your reservation.
O’Fallon Garden Club
The next meeting of the garden club will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Katy Cavins Center, 308 E. Fifth St., O’Fallon. Jim Harper, an apiarist of the beehives at the Community Garden, will speak about how bees maintain hives and produce honey. This event is free and open to the public. Work days in the O’Fallon Community Garden are 8-11 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays and 6-8 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. Bring gardening gloves and water. www.ofallongardenclub.com.
St. Clair County Genealogical Society
The next meeting of the St. Clair County Genealogical Society will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3, at St. Luke’s Parish Hall, 226 N. Church St., Belleville. The presentation will be a pre-recorded webinar, “Common Mistakes in Genealogy,” by Christa Cowan. The meeting is free and open to the public. www.stclair-ilgs.org.
The Polish American Ladies Society
PALS will meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1, at the Caseyville Township Building, 10001 Bunkum Road. The theme is: “School Days, Dear Old Golden Rule Days.” The society officers will provide lunch including dessert and beverages. Lime attire is optional and members are encouraged to bring items or monetary donations for the food pantry.
L.I.F.T. to hold monthly meeting
L.I.F.T., a social club for widows and widowers, will meet for a luncheon at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 2, at Bellecourt Place, 120 N. Jackson St., Belleville. Optimist Club of Belleville
The next meeting of the Optimist Club will be at noon Tuesday, Aug. 1, at Bellecourt Place, 120 N. Jackson St., Belleville. The program for the meeting will be, “Mammals of North America,” and the speaker is Gary Twesten.
