Girl Scout registration events
Girls in grades K-12 are invited to join the Girl Scouts. The organization is also seeking adult volunteers and leaders. The cost to join Girl Scouts is $25. Financial assistance is available for girls and volunteers who qualify.

Hoedowners Square Dance Club
The Hoedowners are offering a beginner square dance class from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 7, at the Wood River Round House, 633 N. Wood River Ave., Wood River. “Dancing for 2 hours could be compared to a 4-mile hike,” wrote a square dance club member in a press release. “The calls are easy to learn and there is no fancy footwork. If you can walk and listen, you can square dance.” No experience is necessary for this class. Information: 618-288-9838.
Optimist Club of Belleville
The next meeting of the Optimist Club will be at noon Tuesday, Aug. 29, at Bellecourt Place, 120 N. Jackson St., Belleville. The program will be, “Legal Advice for Seniors,” with Felicia Voelkel as the featured speaker. Guests are always welcome at this club.
Lincoln Place Heritage Association potluck
The Lincoln Place Heritage Association will have a potluck picnic from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at the Lincoln Place Community Center, 822 Niedringhaus Ave., Granite City. Attendees are invited to bring a favorite picnic food and photos of Lincoln Place.
