‘Green Halloween’ at the Glen Carbon Library

From Oct. 2-7, the public is invited to drop off gently-used Halloween costumes at the Glen Carbon Library, 198 S. Main St. Those who donate costumes will receive vouchers that may be redeemed for new-to-you costumes during shopping time from 9-11 a.m. Oct. 7. The costumes may also be purchased for $5 each. 63rd Annual Freedom Fund Awards Banquet

The East St. Louis Branch of the NAACP will have its 63rd Annual Freedom Fund Awards Banquet at 6 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 8, in the Majestic Ballroom at the Marriott St. Louis Grand, 800 Washington Ave., St. Louis. A V.I.P. reception starts at 4:30 p.m. and the doors will open at 5:30 p.m. The theme for the banquet is “The Power of Youth... Steadfast and Immovable.” Awards will be presented to some of the community leaders, educators, business owners and men and women who have exemplified commitment, hard work and sacrifice.

The featured entertainment for the eventing will be “Jazz Edge.” State Rep. Latoya Greenwood will serve as banquet chairman and East St. Louis Mayor Emeka Jackson-Hicks will serve as banquet co-chair. The proceeds from the banquet go toward the NAACP of East St. Louis programs of equality and help operate its general office.

Belleville Township High School reunion lunch

The next semi-annual reunion lunch for the Belleville Township High School class of 1948 will be at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at the EDGE Amusement Center, 701 S. Belt West, Belleville. Attendees will be responsible for the payment of their order. Anyone who has graduated from Belleville Township High School or is interested in “Old BTHS” is welcome to the lunch.

‘Coffee and a Movie’ from Edwardsville Parks and Recreation

The Edwardsville Parks Department invites all seniors, 55 years and older, to come to “Coffee and a Movie” at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, at the Wildey Theatre, 252 N. Main St., Edwardsville. The movie shown will be, “Bye Bye Birdie” starring Dick Van Dyke and Ann-Margret. The cost is $5 in advance and $7 at the door. Each attendee will receive a pastry, popcorn, coffee and soda. Zero Mile Fun Run event

The Parkinson’s Foundation Zero Mile Fun Run will be from 8-9:30 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the Nameoki United Methodist Church, 1900 Pontoon Road, Granite City. The event starts with registration at 8 a.m., a light breakfast and fellowship. Then, there will be live music, demonstrations of yoga, “Rock Steady Boxing” and a literature booth sponsored by the National Parkinson Foundation. The deadline to be included as a sponsor in the program for the 24th Annual Festival of Trees: Faith, Hope, and Charity for All is Oct. 17. The annual festival, which raises funds for ongoing or new community-based projects, will take place at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 6, at the Gateway Center, Collinsville.
