At the second annual St. Clair County Expungement and Record Sealing Summit, participants can remove certain records of arrest, court supervisions and probations from their criminal records for free. It will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14, at the Information Sciences Building, Southwestern Illinois College, Belleville.
If possible, attendees should bring: case numbers, date of arrest, arresting law enforcement agency, charges brought and any paperwork related to the case. This event is hosted by the St. Clair County Clerk’s Office, Archford Angels, Catholic Urban Program’s Neighborhood Law Office and Land of Lincoln Legal Assistance Foundation. ‘Break Word with the World’
The 27th annual “Break Word with the World,” a town hall-style evening of poetry, exhibits, performance art and social commentary, will take place at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 17, at the SIUE-East St. Louis Higher Education Center, 601 J.R. Thompson Drive. This event continues the observance of the 1917 East St. Louis Racial Murders (also known as the 1917 East St. Louis Riots). It is presented by The Eugene B. Sequins, Suits and Sneakers Gala
The fifth annual Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation Sequins, Suits and Sneakers Gala will take place at 6 p.m. Oct. 26, at the Four Seasons Hotel, St. Louis. This fundraising event benefits the Jackie Joyner-Kersee Foundation and all of the youth programs it supports. Tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available. Shoe drive fundraiser for homeless animals
St. Clair County Animal Welfare Advocates, a non-profit, all-volunteer organization, is having a shoe drive fundraiser during the month of October to raise funds for homeless animals in St. Clair County. Anyone can help by donating gently worn, used and new shoes and emailing advocates@sccawa.com to arrange for pick-up or drop-off of the shoes.
Entries for ‘Classic Car Show’
Organizers are seeking entries for a Classic Car Show that will take place from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at Mertz Ford, 100 E. Washington St., Millstadt. The entry fee is $20 and custom trophies will be awarded. The Classic Car Show is sponsored by Friends of the Old Millstadt Water Tower. Information: 618-520-3623.
Donate clothing at J.Jill in St. Clair Square
Gently Worn, part of J.Jill’s Compassion Fund, is accepting gently worn clothing from Oct. 12-25 at J.Jill in the St. Clair Square Mall, 134 St. Clair Square, Fairview Heights. For each item donated, customers will receive 30 percent off a full-priced item. The Compassion Fund gives support to community-based organizations that help disadvantaged and homeless women become self-sufficient.
