Store specializing in products from Africa gets a new home in Fairview Heights
Ogbah’s African Store, which sells souvenir items, clothing, food and other products from Nigeria, Ghana and other African countries, reopened in September at a new location in Fairview Heights.
The new location is 815 Lincoln Highway, #108, Fairview Heights..
The store was started as a home business in 2013 and opened as a brick and mortar store in O’Fallon in 2017. Facebook posts referencing a Belleville address started in early 2019.
In a 2017 interview with the BND, owner Linda Ogbah Faas said she got tired of driving to St. Louis to pick up ingredients for her African cooking, so she opened her store.
“I figured all the Africans in this area would benefit from having a local store so they wouldn’t have to drive to St. Louis like I was doing,” she said.
A U.S. Navy veteran and entrepreneur, Faas has a passion for African goods in honor of her African heritage. She was raised in Nigeria and still has family there who send her authentic materials for the store.
A percentage of the store’s profits are used to support Gemstone Schools and daycare in Abuja, Nigeria.
