▪ St. Louis’ Gateway Writing Project Writing Marathon — 4-6 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17. Gateway Arch National Park, St. Louis. Participating writers should meet at the entrance plaza on the west side of the Arch, where they will be divided into small groups. The groups will walk through the park, exploring and discussing the landscape as well as the architecture of downtown St. Louis. The groups will stop at various locations throughout the park to write silently, and those writings will be shared within the group. In addition, there will be tables with writing prompt games and supplies for drawing and building. This is a free event. Pens and notebooks will be provided by the Gateway Writing Project. ▪ River-to-River Trail Society Guided Hike: Promise Land (Pope County) — 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 15. Benham Ridge Trailhead parking area, Herod. This will be a hike of moderate difficulty, 5 miles in length, four hours of hiking time; this hike has creek crossings. Hikers will need to shuttle for this hike, and it will be a loop hike once shuttled. This hike is intended for people in good health who have done some walking. Hiking sticks and boots or sturdy shoes are recommended. Hikers should bring their own water and snack. No dogs please.
