Don’t miss the iconic Oscar Mayer Wienermobile. Here’s when it will visit the metro-east
Oscar Mayer’s iconic Wienermobile is coming to the metro-east and the greater St. Louis region this week, and you’ll have plenty of chances to snap a picture.
The Wienermobile was first unveiled in 1936, according to Oscar Mayer’s website, and it was designed by General Body Co. in Chicago. Oscar Mayer temporarily retired the automobile during World War II to conserve gas, but it returned in 1952.
Five 22-feet-long Wienermobiles hit the road in 1952, complete with sound systems and sunroofs. They retired again in 1977, but Oscar Mayer debuted a new fleet of six 23-foot-long vehicles in 1988.
Today, six Wienermobiles travel the U.S., stopping at grocery stores, festivals and other locations to “meat” and greet people. If you just can’t get enough of the Wienermobile, you can apply to become a “Hotdogger” for the chance to spend a year traveling as a spokesperson in a memorable company car.
When and where can you see the Wienermobile?
The company has four St. Louis area stops planned this week, as well as a Granite City holiday parade appearance in December.
Here’s when and where you can see the Wienermobile:
9 a.m. to noon Oct. 13 at Schnucks in Godfrey (2712 Godfrey Road)
