Clinton County Veterans Day Celebration — 9:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11. Beckemeyer American Legion, 391 Louis St., Beckemeyer. Wood River Veterans Day Celebration — 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11. Vaughn Hill Cemetery, 40 W. Ferguson Ave., Wood River. The Color Guard, the 1812 Society and the Ninian Edwards National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will dedicate crosses to unmarked graves. A second event takes place at 4 p.m. at the Wood River Round House, 633 N. Wood River Ave., Wood River, where several veterans will be presented with quilts for bravery.

Belleville Veterans Day Ceremony — 11 a.m. to noon Friday, Nov. 11. Public Square, downtown Belleville. Annual ceremony to honor all veterans from all wars. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held at City Hall, Counsel Chambers, 101 S. Illinois St., Belleville.

O’Fallon Veterans Monument Veterans Day Event — 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 11. First Baptist Church, 111 E. Highway 50, O’Fallon. The City of O’Fallon will hold a Veterans Day observance. The guest speaker will be Maj. Gen. Vincent Barker, USA, chief of staff, USTRANSCOM. There will be participation from Robert C. Cummings, Col. (ret.), USAF; the OTHS AFJROTC; and Miss O’Fallon Natalie Hale, in addition to others. The names of the newly-inscribed veterans will be introduced at this time. Pre-service music will begin at 10:45 a.m. Veterans are encouraged to wear their medals and decorations that day.

Edwardsville Veterans Day Parade — 7 p.m. Friday, Nov. 11. North Main Street, Edwardsville. The parade begins at the parking lot on West Vandalia Avenue. The route heads east on Vandalia to North Main Street and continues along North Main, disbanding at 400 N. Main St.

Worth the Drive

River-to-River Trail Society Guided Hike: Haystack, Blue Hole and Sasquatch Cave Loop (Gallatin County) — 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 12. Meet at Rim Rock National Recreational Trail, Elizabethtown. This will be a hike of moderate difficulty, 6 miles in length, four hours hiking time. There will be off trail hiking for 3⁄4 of a mile, and there will be creek crossings. Hikers will need to be shuttled for this hike and this will be a loop hike once shuttled. The leader of this hike will be Steve Melville who can be reached at 314-223-3061 for more information. This hike is intended for people in good health who have done some hiking. Hiking sticks and boots or sturdy shoes are recommended. Hikers should bring their own water and snacks. No dogs please.
