Looking for a creative outlet next week? Gather with others Thursday evening at Bee Hollow in Mascoutah for a Sip n Paint event for a good cause. Create a celebration or “Giving Plate.” You paint on the back of a clear glass plate so that the top surface is food safe. Decorate any way you want, with help and suggestions along the way. The event takes place from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, costs $27 and benefits cancer research. Call (618) 566-8583. The shop is at 217 E. Main St.

For Cards fans

For a diehard St. Louis Cardinals fan, it really doesn’t matter if summer is past, does it? If you have somebody who sees red all year long, Here Today in Fairview Heights has Cards sweaters ($69.99) and faux leather jackets ($39.99) in men’s sizes to sport in cooler temps. The retailer is located on Illinois 159 in the same strip shopping center as Old Navy and Marshall’s.

Halloween caps

Neighbor Five Below has cute stretchy caps for $3 that could be worn as part of a Halloween costume (turtle, devil, kitty, green alien), or just as attention-getter. They look like they stretch, so they could fit kids and adults.

Cookie time

Another neighbor, Marshall’s, has a nice selection of fall and Halloween cookie cutters and baking supplies. A three-piece skeleton cutter is $1.99 while a bright orange two-piece bakeware set to make pumpkin cake pops is $14.99. Other fun sets of cookie cutters are $4.99 and $5.99. A big pumpkin cake pan from Wilton is $4.99.

Tape it up

I spied these tiny rolls of autumn and Halloween-theme tape at Target last week and felt compelled to mention them. Look for them in the Halloween section of the store as well as by greeting cards and office supplies. Each roll is $2 and can be used to decorate pumpkins, picture frames, make your own greeting cards and more.

Chico’s at the Shoppes at St. Clair in Fairview Heights has a fall sale going on through Monday: 25 percent off full price styles, plus an extra half off already reduced merchandise.

Bring old clothes

Neighbor J. Jill’s Gently Worn Event will give you 25 percent off one full-priced item for every gently worn item donated through Monday.

Breast cancer prevention

At Forever 21 at St. Clair Square, $1 of each item marked with a pink or white ribbon will be donated to the Keep A Breast Foundation to help educate about breast cancer prevention. The campaign goes through Oct. 31.

The wedding party

Now might be the time to stock up on bridesmaid, groomsmen and other gifts from Things Remembered at the mall. Through Monday, buy one, get one half off gift categories like home and bar, baby and kids, wedding, and “for him and her” items. Even better, the discount is valid on clearance items, too.

Halloween project

Michaels Crafts in Shiloh has a Halloween Perler Project for kids from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday. Cost is $2, which includes supplies. Your child can drop in, sign up at the store or go online at to register. For kids 3 and older, it’s a quick bead and pegboard project.
