Grandpa’s advice paid off
A grandpa’s advice played into Collin Largent’s future.
“Collin had confided in his grandfather (Adam Becker) that he was interested in me,” said Jen Largent, “and his grandfather replied ‘opportunity only knocks once.’ With that vote of confidence, Collin asked me to dance.”
The two were both in the wedding of Pam and Andy Kueker eight years ago. Jen was Pam’s friend. Andy was Collin’s cousin.
“To the best of my knowledge, no one had a hidden agenda,” said Jen, a 1998 Belleville West grad who is now a certified application counselor at Allsup. “Friends weren’t planning on Collin and I finding love at the wedding.”
But they did.
“We exchanged numbers and have been inseparable since,” she said.
Jen and Collin, a 2004 Waterloo grad, have been married for 7 1/2 years. They have a daughter Adalynn, who is 2 1/2 months.
“(Collin’s grandpa) Adam Becker, he is no longer with us,” said Jen. “The ‘Ada’ in Adalynn is for Adam.
Q: What qualities did you like about each other from the start?
A: “I was instantly attracted to Collin and wanted to find out more about him. He was down-to-earth, had a good sense of humor, made me laugh and is very kindhearted and thoughtful.”
Q: Do you plan to do anything special for Valentine’s Day?
A: “At this time, we do not have any special plans for Valentine’s Day. We will probably stay home and enjoy our new baby.”
Q: Do the two of you have a lot in common and enjoy doing the same things, or are you opposites?
A: “We do have a lot in common. We both enjoy being with friends and family, doing things outdoors, camping, fishing, playing games, traveling. We follow the same religious beliefs and have a lot of the same beliefs and priorities.”
Q: How much did having a baby change your lives?
A: “Adalynn has brought such joy to our lives. She is a true blessing and has brought us closer together. Life can be hectic and tiring with a newborn, but every minute with her is wonderful. Our hearts overflow with love, and we are excited to be on this new adventure together.”
