Ed Heath shows how to make his beet salad
Eric “Ed” Heath, co-owner of Cleveland-Heath restaurant in Edwardsville, is a Best Chef semifinalist in the 26th annual James Beard Foundation Awards.
The foundation announced the semifinalists today.
Selected from a list of more than 20,000 entries, the prestigious group of semifinalists in 21 categories represents a wide range of culinary talent, from exceptional chefs and dining destinations in 10 different regions across the United States to the nation’s top wine and spirits professionals, best new restaurants, rising star chefs, pastry chefs and bakers.
Heath was among 20 in the Best Chef category in the Great Lakes Region, with 11 of the other nominees from Chicago. According to the foundation, all are chefs who have set new or consistent standards of excellence in their respective regions. Eligible candidates can be from any kind of dining establishment and must have been working as a chef for at least five years with the three most recent years spent in the region.
Heath owns Cleveland-Heath with his wife, Chef Jennifer Cleveland. They are graduates of the Culinary Institute of America in California. Cleveland-Heath, which serves modern comfort food, was voted best new restaurant in 2012 by the Riverfront Times. Heath won Sauce magazine's Readers' Choice 2014 Favorite Chef award.
