This week’s BND Pet of the Week is Ginger Delores, a 1-year-old Border Collie mix, who is more of a mutt than a purebred, but has all the loyalty and love that only a collie mix possesses.
Still figuring out how to control all of her puppy energy at the Belleville Area Humane Society, Ginger is quick to do anything for toys or the chance to play tug-of-war. Melissa Janes, the social media coordinator and animal handler, thinks that with the right owner, Ginger could adapt well to training, even competitively.
“You can do just about anything with her,” Janes said. “She is really fond of her toys so if you wanted to do agility training she might be a good candidate. She’s really toy driven and very smart.”
Ginger is affectionate and would prefer a family that is around a lot in the home. Her gentle attitude would make her the ideal dog to grow up with kids of any age. Janes wouldn’t call Ginger’s personality an anxiety issue; she thinks that Ginger just loves being around people.
“She’s very affectionate,” Janes said. “She’ll climb right into your lap give you kisses. She might be a little shy at first, but most dogs are. When she warms up, she’s really sweet and outgoing.”
