Forum on race relations
The Rev. Dr. John Curry of Conqueror’s Christian Center will host “Nation’s Race Relations Dialogue: No More Us and Them, We are One” at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at 15 N. First St. (the former YMCA building). Panel members are Milton Wharton, retired judge; Willliam G. Clay III, Belleville chief of police; Lee Spearman, director of Belleville Public Library; Jessica Wernli, community organizer; and Steve Johnson, Swansea police department.
Curry invites the public to the dialogue that he described as a “respectful, yet uncut and raw” discussion about race relations.
“This dialogue is about solutions, rather than blaming,” he said. “We are not about blaming folks. We are trying to bring solutions to the table.”

Indie-folk band The Fog Lights in Alton
Indie folk band The Fog Lights will perform at 7 p.m Saturday at Jacoby Arts Center, 627 E. Broadway, Alton. Band member Jim Peters describes its music as “folk, but with a little bit of an idie sound. Our vocals have been compared to Simon and Garfunkel.” Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door, or follow the link: http://jacobyartscenter.org/events-2225185. Seating is on a first-come, first-seated basis with a cash bar. Doors open 30 minutes in advance.
Healing service at Shrine
There will be a healing serve at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 19, in the main church of the Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows. All seeking healing regardless of religious affiliation are welcome. For information, call 277-0416.
Exchange club invitation
The Belleville Exchange Club will celebrate is 70th anniversary with an open house from 1-4 p.m. Sunday at its clubhouse, 404 Sycamore, Belleville. Refreshments will be served. The club will share information about its activities which include help sponsoring Belleville’s Oktoberfest, Friday night bingo at the CK & L of I in Swansea, food baskets during the holidays and setting up Easter and Christmas displays on the Belleville Square.
