A 48-year old East St. Louis man was shot to death early Saturday afternoon at a home in the 700 block of N. 53rd Street. His identity is being withheld pending notification of the victim's family.
Illinois State Police Master Sgt. Mark Doiron said East St. Louis police were called to a residence in the 700 block of N. 53rd street in reference to a shooting. A motive for the shooting death is unknown.
"When the police arrived on the scene, they located a 48-year old black male who was suffering from a gunshot wound,” Doiron said. “He was taken to an Illinois area hospital where he was pronounced deceased.”
The victim is believed to be from East St. Louis. A police investigation is being jointly worked by East St. Louis Police Department investigators and Illinois State Police.

Doiron declined to say whether police recovered the weapon. "I won't comment on any evidence that we may have," Doiron said.
