Kia recalls nearly 463K vehicles. See the affected model
Kia is recalling nearly 463,000 vehicles, citing a seat defect that can increase the risk of injury, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA).
The issue affecting a certain number of vehicles could lead to a fire while the vehicle is in park or drive mode, the NHTSA states on its website.
The agency elaborated on the issue in a recent recall notice: "The front power seat motor may overheat due to a stuck power seat slide knob or an improper recall 24V407 repair."
Here's more information on what model is included in the recall and the next steps for car owners.
Which model is affected?
According to the NHTSA, 462,869 vehicles are potentially affected by this recall. The model is:
- 2020-2024 Kia Telluride
The current recall number is SC374 (replacing previous recall 24V407), the notice reads.
What should car owners do?
Car owners are advised to park their vehicles outdoors, away from structures, due to the fire risk.
At no cost, the dealership will install an electronic fuse assembly as part of the repair process, according to the NHTSA. Those who had their vehicles fixed under recall 24V407 will need another repair.
Notification letters are set to be mailed on Aug. 13. Kia can be contacted at 800-333-4542.
