St. Louis County reports another coronavirus-related death

The St. Louis County Department of Public Health on Thursday reported another death related to the novel coronavirus.

The woman, who was between 80 and 89, had a chronic medical condition, the department said in a news release.

Her death is the second in the county due to COVID-19.

In the release, the county also reported a total of 143 positive cases, an increase of 24 new positive cases from Wednesday’s 119.

“We acknowledge that although the laboratory test is becoming more broadly available, there are limitations in our public health and healthcare systems’ capacity to obtain samples from people as rapidly as we would like,” the release said. “The healthcare community is working together to assure equitable access to COVID-19 testing resources in the St. Louis region.”

In St. Louis City, the number of confirmed coronavirus cases rose to 69, up by 16 from Wednesday. The city did not announce any new deaths related to the virus since its first one on Monday.

Statewide, the Missouri Department of Health reported there are 502 coronavirus cases and eight deaths.
