The Randolph County Health Department announced Sunday that two people had tested positive for coronavirus, or COVID-19.

The two cases are contact-related, the department said in a news release. The patients are the first confirmed COVID-19 cases in the county.

A Missouri resident who works in Chester has also tested positive for COVID-19, but is being monitored by a Missouri health department. That case was not counted in the Illinois Department of Public Health’s database as of Sunday.

Overall, the metro-east area had 46 positive cases as of Sunday afternoon. There has been one coronavirus-related death in St. Clair County. Illinois had 3,491 cases and 47 deaths.

The two new patients have been isolated and are being monitored by the Randolph County Health Department, the Illinois Department of Public Health and local health care workers, the release said. The county health department is working to reach anyone who came into contact with the two individuals.

“An individual confirmed positive for the COVID-19 or is a close contact with an individual who is confirmed COVID-19, will be isolated for a period of 14 days unless they require further hospitalization or medical treatment,” the release said. “The Health Department will be in contact with individuals who are isolated at home and provide additional instructions.”
