Number of coronavirus cases in southwestern Illinois passes 100
The number of positive COVID-19 cases in southwestern Illinois has reached 101.
In St. Clair County, the number of cases increased to 50, according to the St. Clair County Health Department. Officials previously announced the deaths of two patients who tested positive for COVID-19. One woman was in her 80s and the other was in her 30s. Both of them had underlying health conditions.
County Board Chairman Mark Kern also warned the public to continue to comply with Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s stay at home executive order after the St. Clair Sheriff’s Office took away the liquor license of a Dupo tavern owner who opened for business Tuesday night.
The health department reported that 378 people had been tested in the county as of Wednesday, and that there were 98 pending results.
In Madison County, the number of coronavirus cases increased to 27. In total, 299 people have been tested in the county with 89 awaiting results, the Madison County Health Department reported Wednesday.

Statewide, the Illinois Department of Public Health has reported 6,980 cases of the virus on Wednesday. There have been 141 deaths total and 40,384 have been tested.
