28 new coronavirus cases reported in southwestern Illinois counties

The number of COVID-19 cases continues to rise in the metro-east, with a total of 28 new cases reported Friday, according to state and local statistics.

The biggest increases were in St. Clair County, Madison and Randolph counties, where 16, 8 and 2 new cases were reported, respectively. There were also two new cases reported in Monroe County.

The total number of cases in southwestern Illinois now stands at 147.

Here’s a breakdown of the cases:

St. Clair County: 69, three deaths

Madison County: 38

Clinton County: 9

Monroe County: 8

Washington County: 1

Randolph County: 17

Bond County: 3

Jersey County: 1

Macoupin County: 1

The total in the state also continued to rise, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health. As of Friday there were 8,904 cases and 210 death in Illinois. A total of 43,656 people statewide have been tested.
