Number of coronavirus cases in southwestern Illinois reaches 237, including six deaths
The number of coronavirus cases in southwestern Illinois has increased to 237.
St. Clair County, which reported its first two cases March 14, announced Tuesday that it now has 94 cases, an increase of eight from Monday. The new cases include two men in their 20s, a man in his 30s, a man in his 50s, a woman in her 20s, a woman in her 50s, a woman in her 60s and a woman in her 90s.
The county has announced four deaths related to the virus. Madison and Monroe counties announced their first deaths of COVID-19 patients on Tuesday, bringing the total in the region to six.
On Monday, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced it would begin releasing ZIP codes where there are five or more positive cases.
