Latest coronavirus numbers in southwestern Illinois include St. Clair, Madison deaths
There were a total of 1,041 coronavirus cases in the metro-east as of Monday, an increase from 1,017 on Sunday.
Madison County announced via its COVID-19 dashboard that it had three more deaths Monday, bringing its total to 19 deaths.
St. Clair County announced one new death on Monday as well, bringing its total to 23 deaths since the pandemic began. The patient was a woman in her 90s with underlying health conditions.
During the state’s daily COVID-19 news conference Monday, officials announced 1,980 new cases and 50 additional deaths. The announcement brings the statewide total of positive coronavirus cases to 45,883 and the total number of deaths to 1,983.
Also during the news conference, Gov. J.B. Pritzker named Monroe County as having one of the state’s highest coronavirus death rates per population. In response, Monroe County Health Department Administrator John Wagner released a statement.
“What (Pritzker) so conveniently did not mention is that all but one of the deaths in Monroe County is due to the outbreak at Garden Place assisted living facility,” the statement said. “This in itself shows that the Governor is more concerned about the appearance of treating the whole state as one rather then taking a regional specific approach that are supported by the numbers.”
