Coronavirus cases rise in southwestern Illinois, as St. Clair, Madison report deaths
The number of coronavirus cases in southwestern Illinois continued to increase on Sunday, as did the number of virus-related deaths.
The region has had 1,377 cases and 90 deaths since the pandemic began.
St. Clair County health officials announced six more deaths, including two men in their 70s, a woman in her 80s, a man in his 80s, a woman in her 90s and a man in his 90s, all with underlying conditions. The county’s total number of COVID-19 deaths is now 47.
Madison County announced another death on Sunday as well, bringing the county’s total to 24. The patient was a woman in her 60s. It is unknown if she had underlying conditions.
During Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s daily COVID-19 news conference, the state announced 2,994 new cases statewide, bringing the total number to 61,499. Officials also announced 63 new deaths for a total of 2,618 since the pandemic began.
