Death toll for coronavirus patients in southwestern Illinois hits 100
The number of coronavirus cases in southwestern Illinois continued to increase on Tuesday, as did the number of virus-related deaths.
St. Clair County announced the deaths of two patients who had tested positive for coronavirus on Tuesday: a man in his 80s with underlying conditions and a woman in her 60s with underlying conditions.
Madison County health officials reported a new death on Tuesday, a woman in her 80s. It is unknown if she had underlying conditions.
Also Tuesday, Macoupin County announced its first death: a woman in her 40s. Health officials did not say whether or not she had underlying conditions.
The region has had 1,452 cases and 100 deaths since the pandemic began.
During his daily COVID-19 news conference, Illinois Gov. J.B. Pritzker announced 2,122 new cases statewide, bringing the total number to 65,962. Officials also announced 176 new deaths for a total of 2,838 since the pandemic began.
