Illinois health officials report highest one-day death toll from coronavirus
Illinois has 1,677 new COVID-19 cases and 191 more deaths, health officials announced Wednesday.
The announcement by the Illinois Department of Public Health brings the statewide total of coronavirus cases to 84,698 and the total number of deaths to 3,792.
The number of deaths announced Wednesday is the highest single day reported death toll since the pandemic began, 15 more than the previous high May 5.
