Three more coronavirus-related deaths in southwestern Illinois as cases eclipse 1,800

The metro-east has had 1,832 cases and 129 coronavirus-related deaths since the pandemic was declared.

Madison County reported two new deaths Wednesday, a man in his 70s and a man in his 90s. Health officials did not say whether or not the men had underlying conditions. Officials in St. Clair County announced one new death Wednesday, a man in his 60s with underlying conditions. Clinton County, which reported one death late Tuesday with no additional information, announced a spike of 24 new cases Wednesday.

Overall, there were 62 new cases and three new deaths in the metro-east Wednesday.

In the daily COVID-19 news release Wednesday, the state reported the highest single day death toll since the pandemic began. Overall, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced 192 new deaths, bringing the total to 3,792. Additionally, there are 1,677 new cases statewide, bringing the total to 84,698 since the pandemic began.
