Illinois reports second highest daily total of new coronavirus cases since pandemic began

Illinois has 3,239 new COVID-19 cases and 138 more deaths, health officials announced Thursday.

The announcement by the Illinois Department of Public Health brings the statewide total of coronavirus cases to 87,937 and the total number of deaths to 3,928.

The number of people tested was 22,678, the second-highest number of people tested.

The number of new cases is the second-highest daily total reported since the pandemic began. The highest daily report was on Tuesday.
