Southern Illinois health officials report six new regional coronavirus deaths

The metro-east has had 1,863 cases and 135 coronavirus-related deaths since the pandemic was declared.

In St. Clair County, health officials reported two new deaths, a man in his 50s with no known underlying conditions and a man in his 80s with underlying health conditions.

Madison County officials reported four new deaths as well, a woman in her 80s and three women in their 90s. Whether or not the patients had underlying conditions was not released.

In the daily COVID-19 news release Thursday, the state reported the second-highest single day increase in case numbers since the pandemic began. Overall, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced 3,239 new cases statewide, bringing the total to 87,937. Additionally, there are 138 new deaths, bringing the total to 3,928.
