Latest coronavirus numbers in Illinois: 1,734 new cases and 51 more deaths
The Illinois Department of Public Health announced 1,734 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 and 51 more people have died statewide.
Illinois has seen a total of 4,177 deaths across the state during the pandemic, officials reported Sunday. A total of 94,191 people have been diagnosed with the COVID-19 respiratory disease caused by the coronavirus.
An additional 20,295 have been tested for the virus, IDPH said in a news release.
Previously, the department has said it has been reporting lower numbers of coronavirus cases and deaths on the weekend because of a multitude of factors.
In an email to the BND, the state said those factors include fewer specimens collected, delays in lab testing and reporting and delayed data entry by those reporting the data, like labs, hospitals, health departments and coroners.
