Latest coronavirus numbers in southwestern Illinois include six new deaths

A total of 2,269 people in southwestern Illinois have tested positive for COVID-19 and 169 people have died, health officials reported Sunday.

St. Clair County announced five new deaths Sunday, three women in their 80s and two men in their 80s all with underlying health conditions. Additionally, Madison County reported one new death, but did not release details.

Also Sunday, the Illinois Department of Public Health announced 2,508 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 and 67 more people have died statewide. Illinois has seen a total of 4,856 deaths across the state during the pandemic and a total of 110,304 people have been diagnosed with coronavirus.

Additionally, the latest IDPH metrics showed that southern Illinois is on track to start Phase 3 of the Restore Illinois plan at the end of the current stay-at-home order Saturday.
