St. Clair, Macoupin counties report new coronavirus deaths Sunday

Local health departments reported Sunday the number of coronavirus cases in southwestern Illinois has reached 2,500, and the number of deaths has increased to 194.

St. Clair County reported one new death, a woman in her 90s with underlying health conditions.

Overall, there were 24 new cases among counties that reported on Sunday. There were two deaths in the region, including one in Macoupin County, a man in his 60s. It was not clear if he had underlying health conditions.

Statewide, the Illinois Department of Public Health said Sunday that 1,343 additional people have tested positive for COVID-19 and 60 people died in the previous 24 hours.

That brings the state’s total of confirmed cases to 5,390 deaths during the pandemic and 120,260 confirmed cases. An additional 21,154 Illinois residents were tested.
