Illinois surpasses 123,000 COVID-19 cases as health officials report 97 more deaths

The Illinois Department of Public Health announced Wednesday that 982 more people have tested positive for COVID-19 and 97 more people have died.

Illinois has seen a total of 5,621 deaths during the pandemic, officials reported. A total of 123,830 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus.

An additional 24,471 have been tested for the virus in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of administered tests to 959,175, IDPH said in a news release.

Illinois moved into Phase 3 of Gov. J.B. Pritzker’s Restore Illinois reopening plan on May 29.
