Health officials in southwestern Illinois report new positive coronavirus cases

Local health departments reported Monday that the number of coronavirus cases in southwestern Illinois has reached 2,544, and the number of deaths has increased to 197.

St. Clair County announced the death of a woman in her 70s with underlying health conditions. Madison County also reported two new virus-related deaths, but did not release details.

Statewide, the Illinois Department of Public Health said Monday that 974 additional people have tested positive for COVID-19 and 23 people died in the previous 24 hours.

Illinois has seen a total of 5,412 deaths during the pandemic, officials reported. A total of 121,234 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus.
