Number of worldwide COVID-19 deaths reaches 400,000

The number of global coronavirus-related deaths has reached at least 400,000, the Associated Press reported Sunday.

Worldwide, at least 6.9 million people have been infected by the virus, according to Johns Hopkins University. Its running counter says United States leads the world with nearly 110,000 confirmed virus-related deaths and Europe as a whole has recorded more than 175,000 since the virus emerged in China late last year.

Southwestern Illinois coronavirus cases

Here are the latest available statistics from southwestern Illinois health departments as of Sunday afternoon:

  • St. Clair: 1,450 positives, 106 deaths, 9,273 tests administered, 973 recoveries, 18 test results pending
  • Madison: 640 positives, 65 deaths, 7,671 tests administered, 426 recoveries
  • Randolph: 276 positives, four deaths, 1,993 tests administered, three hospitalizations, 263 recoveries

  • Clinton: 194 positives, 17 deaths, two hospitalizations, 144 recoveries
  • Monroe: 103 positives, 12 deaths
  • Macoupin: 47 positives, three deaths, 2,890 tests administered, 41 recoveries, two hospitalizations, two tests pending

  • Perry: 43 positives, 40 recoveries
  • Jersey: 24 positives, one death, 18 recoveries

  • Washington: 20 positives, 18 recoveries
  • Bond: 12 positives, one death, one hospitalization, six recoveries, 214 tests administered, one test pending
  • Calhoun: One positive, one recovery
